New Madagascar Pics

September 27, 2010 – 10:05 am

Most of these images have been taken along Route Nationale 7 (RN7) and in the hinterland beyond. More pictures can be seen on my photostream. The story behind these photo’s can be read (in Dutch) under Plattelandse vistas.

Two houses in typically Central highland style along the RN7, halfway between Ambositre and Fianarantsoa.

Young girl taking care of her baby brother while her parents are planting rice in the nearby paddies. The picture is taken in a tiny village at the foot if the Andringitra mountain range.

Blacksmiths doing it the traditional (and only) way in Anotraonofaka, a village known for its metal workers.

Merina woman pounding rice in preparation of a sweet mixture with pistachew nuts.

Boy at a famadihana or turning of the bones funerary tradition. While taking the picture I imagined him wondering the whereabouts of his ancestors.

Lots of rickety windows in Madagascar and lots of people hanging out of them.
